As each day passes, fans of Sony show more and more interest in the next-gen Sony’s console aka PlayStation 5. Not much has been declared regarding this console that is currently in the work. However, just a little while back, the CEO of AMD, Lis Su, in an interview with CNBC gave away a tidbit that may not actually be a piece of information about this new console but it does seem to be the reason behind the excitement among Sony fans. According to the CEO, AMD has added a Special PlayStation 5 Sauce that enhances the architecture of their application.
Of course this new of AMD developing a special sauce for PlayStation 5 is not much to go on but it does point out the fact that the system just might have a major unique feature that will really put it apart from other consoles.
What we have done with Sony is really architect something for their application, for their special sauce. It’s a great honor for us. We’re really excited about what the next generation PlayStation will do. Lis Su said.
Up till now, Sony has remained tight-lipped about its next-gen consoles. However, they have constantly implied that it will definitely be a step up in technology. It will be a more powerful version of what fans have seen before.
With that being said, not sure if you guys know or not but back in October last year, Sony did give away two of the features that will be added to PS5. Which includes the much-anticipated e backward compatibility and the new BD-XL disc. Fans of Sony know that whenever it came to backward compatibility, Sony has always hesitated. However, Microsoft work and support towards BC, has ultimately forced Sony into consideration.
As for the AMD powering PS5, what we have learned so far is that PS5 will be using a CPU from the third generation Ryzen series. This CPU contains eight cores of AMD’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. This we came to know from the Wired interview with Sony’s Mark Cerny.
Speaking of PlayStation we certainly cannot help but mention the fact that Microsoft’s future Xbox is also being powered by AMD. So that takes us to the question on what will they be introducing in the upcoming console?
On that note let us add that no official release date has been revealed for either of the upcoming consoles. However, based on some rumors and speculation both are expected to roll out sometime in 2020.
