I have a lot of love for Movies especially science fiction however nothing beats the fun of sitting behind a screen and playing some hard core FPS games. Apart from them i am a major lover of Assassins Creed titles especially Brotherhood, The Witcher and God Of War. Huge fan of animation director Hayo Mayazaki.
You’ve probably heard that Sony won’t be present at E3 2019 and this has come to most of the fans as a major shock. 2018’s E3 was no extraordinary for Sony fans but it did bring with it some things for the fans to fall in love with, however, now that won’t be happening this year. The question now being asked is why? What is the reason that has compelled Sony to change its mind to not participate in E3 2019? Well as peculiar as it may come to any of us, Sony is of the opinion that Electronic Entertainment Expo will soon be history. Honestly, after listening to what they had to say, I have to say that they just might be right.
In a recent interview with Gameinformer, Sony announced the news of not landing on E3 2019 saying that Sony has always looked to reinvent itself and its surroundings and with this decision they are doing just that. Looking for inventive opportunities that ultimately engage the community is their focus. Furthermore, they added that PlayStation fans have a huge place in the heart of Sony and they always try to innovate, experiment and take new paths to delight their fans. That is why, in an attempt to explore new horizons they have decided to not be a part of this event this year.
Sony’s Shawn Layden said,
As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
What really caught our attention is what Sony said after. According to them, Electronic Entertainment Expo has lost its significance and it will soon become a part of history. At one point when the internet was not widely available, E3 was an event that everyone could rely on. It was a method to reach every gamer globally but now since the technology has advanced and the internet is just a matter of moments, the significance of Electronic Entertainment Expo had has been lost in history or perhaps soon will. Now they did not exactly pronounce it but what they said, pretty much speaks the same.
with the internet and the fact that 24/7 there is game news, it’s [E3] lost its impact around that.”
With that put into context, let us address the question, is Sony right? Has E3 lost is significance, well not at the moment but we certainly can not deny it. We know for a fact that the Gaming industry is one of the fastest evolving industries and changes take place in a matter of days if not hours. So perhaps, Sony’s argument might have a little weight that E3 is not evolving and it needs to if it still wants to stay significant. Be that as it may, it’s not a clean walk out for Sony as well. For all, we know Sony does not have much to share this E3 and is avoiding the event altogether. Or, since we have the future PS5 to be in the works, Sony might be altering the marketing strategy altogether. As recently Jim Ryan took over as the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, so big changes are perhaps in order.
Whatever may be the reason, we surely can expect something from Sony soon enough. As for Electronic Entertainment Expo there still is some juice left before it becomes history.
