Earlier this year Sony announced that they have not given up on portable gaming, just yet. With not been able to reach the success they aimed with PS Vita, most of the fans thought that that is it for portable gaming from Sony. However, just recently it came to everyone’s attention that Sony‘s new game cartridge is in the works.

Since the release of Nintendo Switch and following its massive and never-ending success, it seemed obvious that this is it for Sony, in terms of portable consoles. It is to be noted that whenever we talk about Nintendo Switch, even though it is a hybrid portable console, it’s a success is considered among bigger consoles.

And now, a new patent has surfaced which seems to suggest that Sony might have a new game cartridge being worked on. Which could very well be the companies next attempt at the handheld consoles.

The patent was filed in South Korea, which seemingly hints at an electronic game cartridge. As you can expect not much is know about this patent at the moment but looking at the designs, it seems that there is a connection at the bottom of the device, which might be used to communicate with a console.

If that is the case, it would in line with the statement by gaming division John Kodera,

“Rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of [portable gaming] as one method to deliver more gaming experiences.”

With all that said, do bear in mind that this is just a patent and not an actual confirmation of any sort, for a aew Sony game cartridge. Sony has filed many patents before, of which we never heard of ever again.

So what are your thoughts regarding all of this? Let us know in the comments below.
