We all have heard that the future of gaming will be stream only, where games will be played online only and most of the companies in the gaming industry not only believe it but are working to make it a reality. However, the Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft, Phill Spencer Stream Only Xbox Console is not the future of gaming.

In a recent interview, when Spencer was asked about the rumors regarding Stream Only Xbox Console, he said that there are certain scenarios where Streaming excels but that is just it. It does not mean that it is the future. And that is why for a console Streaming shouldn’t be an only option.

In fact, he further adds that a console is a platform where you get to download the game you like and play.

“No, there are certain scenarios where a streamed game is the best answer. On a console, the best scenario is for you to download that game and play If you’re on a PC that’s capable of downloading and playing a game? Download and play that game.”

This quite an interesting response where the whole gaming industry is inclining towards online gaming, like cloud gaming and such.

We all know of how much inclined Nintendo is towards cloud game and the recent Electronic Arts Project Atlas, which is assumed to be a version of Cloud gaming. All of which points towards the fact that online gaming might be the future.

So this response by Phil Spencer is contradicting what others are saying. He seems to be very clear on its stance that Stream Only Xbox Console is not the future, at least not for Microsoft.

What do you think? Do you think that online gaming will completely take over the gaming industry? Let us know in the comments below.
