As everyone is already aware that Cyberpunk 2077 takes its inspiration from a 1988’s tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020. The creator of this tabletop Mike Pondsmith has been very actively involved and immersed in the new games production and polishing. He has been completely behind every trend-setting and norm shattering decision that CD Projekt Red has taken during the course of the game’s production. Recently Mike had a chance to play the game himself while visiting the studio in Poland, and his reaction is very exuberant.
It is still unclear how much of the game he was able to play, but according to Mike himself, he moved around in game more than what people saw of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2018’s E3. Mike has been very much involved in the production of the game. His ideas are very thoroughly instilled in the game. The adoption of morality and politics of Cyberpunk 2020 in Cyberpunk 2077 and his support for the game in first person angle is very notable input.
Mike described his experience of playing the game in these words.
The sequences when you’re going down to the Ripperdoc and all that. There’s entire neighborhood areas in there where you can walk around and you can listen to people’s gossip. Because it’s in first-person, what I love is you get that stuff peripherally. You could be crossing to go down the street to get something and hear somebody say something [behind you], and you have to turn and figure out who said it in a crowd and where. You don’t have complete situational awareness, which makes it a far more powerful experience.
Getting in a discussion about the first person perspective of the game Mike further added.
You stop doing your gameplay on a strategic level. You have to do it on a tactical, immediate level, because you don’t know everything. When you’re in third-person, you can look and see the entire battlefield, so to speak. When I’m in [first-person], I’m in it. Stuff that happens around me is coming to me at the speed it would naturally.
With that said, Cyberpunk 2077 is a game full of surprises and has something for everyone. The game being a Political franchise, the reality-based ideas and it being a hub for mega-corporations and also the advanced technology in the game, all these things give the new game an extra much-needed oomph!
