In the June of 2017, an announcement was made regarding the Lords of the Fallen 2. CI Games will be collaborating with Defiant Studios for the development of the game. Today another announcement has come forth stating, that the new developers will start rebuilding the game from scratch.

No prior designs will be used for this new game. Defiant Studios confirmed this, saying they will start over the work on this new project shredding any previous work done by the former creator Deck 13.

Defiant studios were founded by David Grijns in 2016. They have been credited for working in the open world action game Just Cause 3.

David Grijns is also the studios managing director and he explains about the new project in these words.

It’s really a reset, it’s a fresh start. It’s a new engine – Unreal 4 – and a new team. A team which does not have a long and illustrious background in action RPG development, but we actually see it as a strength.

The sequel was officially announced in 2014. Then there was a radio silence for three years. Now it has officially gone under progress.  David seems very positive about the development of the game regardless of the team having no prior experience in producing RPGs. David explains the issue in this way.

It’s an area of the games industry which is now considered untouchable in some degree. It’s like, ‘From Software rules the roost in this particular area of the badlands so abandon all hope ye who enter here.’ And those are exactly the sorts of projects we love.

David seems very excited and positive about the project and is very keen to bring something new and exciting for the fans.

We want to take that fantasy for the player and try to show those fans something a little bit new – a new approach in it. Competition is good. I love the stuff From does but I’m excited about trying to bring something new.

With that said, the story and concept for Lords of the Fallen 2 are yet to be decided but the confidence that Defiant studio is showing is commendable. Still, for the fans, there is a lot of time left until the game is released but we can safely say now that it will eventually.
