An accountant by profession, but my knack for Movies and Gaming has never left the soul. Consider myself to be an old soul when it comes to playing games.I have a huge knack for fast cars and that is why i love Forza and NFS series. However i like to take out my frustration by killing zombies in Dying Light. A die heart fan of Call of Duty franchise. Gladiator & The Shawshank Redemption are eternal love and these are just the tip of the iceberg.
In a sad statement posted on Twitter Monday afternoon, Cliff Bleszinski founder of Boss Key Studio in Raleigh, Noth Carolina, announced that production house behind games like Lawbreakers and a battle royal game Radical Heights is shutting down adding that it is “effectively no more”.
Cliff previously had been working with Epic Games as a lead and was involved in working on games like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. He said video games have been and always will be a part of him but he will be taking time off from the gaming industry and will be spending it with his family.
Boss Key was founded in April 2014 by two former employees of Epic Games Cliff Bleszinski and Arjan Brussee. They worked for almost three years on Lawbreakers before releasing it in 2017.
At the time when Lawbreakers was released, there were already massive games like Overwatch, Fortnite, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds present in the market, which had a very strong hold and Lawbreakers was unable to reach the levels of required sales to actually keep on existing and surviving. Bleszinski admitted to the same reason himself in a statement.
In an attempt to make a comeback, Boss Key this year released a battle royale game Radical Heights. Which to the crowd felt early and unfinished, although it was still was making business, but was not enough to save the company. By the looks of it seemed like the only thing wrong was the timing. Cliff says Radical Heights servers will continue to work in the near future.
Subsequently, announcing his return to Epic Games Arjan Brussee left Boss Key Studio. There were 65 employees in the company all extremely talented and masters of there work, and now are out of jobs but their efforts show how brilliant they are. We wish them good luck and hope the best for their future prospects.
This whole event shows that how difficult it is to survive in this jam-packed gaming market. It doesn’t matter how sound your skills are, or how talented and effective your team is. It all comes down to correct timing and a huge container of luck.
